Fissures
Teach me how to be brave
You and I,
We are all our parents made
Together we were lost
But I am home and you are there
you learned to read the lines of the world
Flag to terra firma
Teach me to be more than I’ve always been
Tell me when the chaos becomes creation
You don a suit and tie
I wear the linens of a child, waiting by the door
Splattered and torn
Let me try your clothes
Tell me, brother
What lies ahead?
There have been many lifetimes of you and I
But it is a tale as old as time:
the dreamer and the moon
Just beyond her fingertips
Who are we to escape the sky of our yesteryears?
it never failed to divide the galaxies before us
For as I child I held the moon in my hands
its shine in my eyes
And its stars in my lap
But now I wish upon you with not wonder, but worries
For the poets immortalized the moon for its unattainability
When will I join you in this distance?
I long for the day
When will we grow up brother?
Phone bills, christmas cards, bitter words big and small like-(why didn’t you call)
When did you think I stopped needing you?
Sometimes I worry about what you’re becoming
Sometimes I feel I don’t know you
Sometimes, in moments like these I wish I could
What has life made of us?
The apples have fallen far from the tree
There is only you and me
This is all we have
So won't you wait for me?
