Fire and Flame

I am of fire and flame

admired but blamed

when the sparks burn too bright

and the ashes lay

I was destined, doomed, dangerous and deserved a cage

but when man was alone

did you not beat every stick and stone

to conjure my name?

For fire is great in every way

but enough calamities

will ignite its name.

Fire must be tempered.

Fire must be tamed.

Cast the spark but call the seas

to ask us why we came

You want my warmth but hold my death

In every bucket full.

Quickly quickly! it's rising now

Call upon each ship

Yes, go grab the children!

Who kept them warm when they were sick?

You worship me only when I can exist within your grip

how typical

But is there no one that will love this age old miracle?

There is no potable poison— so take me as I am

Is there no one who will love me,

out of reach from their commands?
