Eve

I am a sinner

but an honest one too

So I break your heart and

mine everytime I speak the truth

But what is so bad,

That you can look me in the eyes no longer?

how can such sweetness be the cause of such dishonor?

I love with the heart you gave me

I sing its very song

Why do you greet it like a stranger

when I’ve been here all along?

You taught me every syllable of softness

Every consonant of love

But in my first sonnet, nothing but damage has been done

your affections have come undone

I am the subject of shame

I think it’s no sin

It’s agony and artistry

The same I’ve always been

but if you wish to sentence me,

lay down your worst prophecy

sit up straight, sit up high

raise a finger for a quick demise

but a final warning, I must confess

you may forsake my flesh,

but my memory is your disciple, she will never rest

if still you insist,

hold the knife

but let me twist

let me and pride have one last tryst

Bless me once, bless me twice

I don’t want to go alone

I should have known a champion like you

would not hesitate to kill the heart on which we built a home
